Q: I haven't been back on campus for over ten years and I'm going to meet some old friends for a football weekend. Is Kilroy's still in business? How about Nick's?
Carol: Not only still in business, but this Bloomington institution has expanded from the original Kilroy's on Kirkwood. Watch replays with your buddies after the game at Kilroy's Sports Bar at 8th and Walnut or try the latest "branch," Smokin' Jack's Rib Shack at 505 West 17th St.
Nick's English Hut is still going strong after more than 75 years. An IU tradition maybe better known than the school song! You and your friends will enjoy reminiscing about old times and celebrating new occasions.
Other old favorites are still here as well - The Trojan Horse, Cafe Pizzaria and the Irish Lion to name just a few! But try to make time to visit and enjoy some of the more recent additions to the B-Town scene - Check out Upland Brewing Co., a microbrewery with great food available in the Tap Room or experience Tutto Bene - everything's good - a wine bar with tapas-style dining.
Q: I'll be arriving in Bloomington shortly after midnight - where can I still get a bite to eat that late at night?
Carol: Several area bars and pubs offer late night "pub grub," including the Irish Lion, Crazy Horse, THe Trojan Horse, Yogis and Kilroy's, just to name a few. Upland Brewing Co. and Tutto Bene are both open late on Friday and Saturday nights as well.
Q: I'm going to be visiting my child who is a student at Indiana University. Where can we go that's close to campus?
Carol: The Indiana Memorial Union is on campus and offers several dining options so technically, I suppose, it would be the closest! But remember, campus is easily accessible from all parts of Bloomington - virtually nothing is more than a 15-minute drive away.
Check out one of several dining options within walking distance of campus, such as Yogi's on 10th Street, Village Deli, The Trojan Horse, the Irish Lion or Crazy Horse on Kirkwood Avenue. There's also Grazie! Italian Eatery and Malibu Grill on the courthouse square.
Q: We'll be celebrating a special occasion while in Bloomington. Can you recommend a nice restaurant for a special dinner?
Carol: There are loads of great restaurants in town that are perfect for special occasions. Depending on your tastes, you may want to check out Janko's Little Zagreb for a steak like you've never tasted before! Other great options for celebrating include Chapman's Restaurant and Truffles Fine Cuisine, both on the east side of town and Grazie! Italian Eatery on the north side of the courthouse square.
Q: I like to travel with my Jack Russell terrier. What hotels in Bloomington accept pets?
Carol: A SummerHouse Inn, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Motel 6, TownePlace Suites, Travelodge, and University Plaza Hotel all accept pets. Contact each of the properties for specific fee and/or deposit policies. Also see our Places to Stay section to check out area guest houses and rental cabins. Many do allow pets.
